A study on the range of weighed coal sample mass for determination of total sulphur content using the 5E-S3100A sulphur meter

    • The trouble with the measurement of total sulphur of coal using 5E-S3100 A is that in meter calibration, the total sulphur reference standard values are found not to have a coverage over the values of total sulphur of coal samples under measurement. Therefore, experiments are conducted on measurement of the total sulphur of 2 standard coal samples GBW 111266 and GBW 11113 f within a certain range of weighed mass using Coulomb sulphur meter. Then statistical analysis is made of the correlativity between total sulphur measurements and the range of weighed mass for determination of the meter's effective range of measurement. Test result shows that: the weighed masses of the two above-mentioned 2 samples and the measured total sulphur values are not all in close correlation, and they are different in effective range of weighed mass; the weighed mass of the sample should not be changed arbitrarily at the time when measurement is being made; and make sure that meter calibration is made always under the condition that weighed mass of sample is not correlated with measured total sulphur value, and the multi-point calibration curve obtained through changing the weighed mass can be used for meter calibration.
